Rain washed streets

Jeans: Levi's, Gifted, Bag: India, Jewelery: All over, Shoes: Sportsgirl

I love pictures taken after the rain seems to have washed everything clean and shiny. I haven't been posting much because work's been keeping me heaps busy, its become cold and I am perpetually in my uniform du jour consisting of non-tight jeans, pure wool sweaters topped off with beanies, Grandpa cardigans and boots. Bright bags really cheer me up over the colder months and colourful socks keep me entertained. What do you do to stay cozy but cheerful over winter?

The correct term for Bollywood is The Hindi Film Industry

I unfortunately chanced upon this horrific video that literally knocked my breath it is so awful. Now I can talk about cultural appropriation and how rich white people's photos/ videos from India and their fetishisation of slums and the colour, our temples and Bollywood makes me want to hurl things. But I am not going to let people like that take away from the fact that try as you might Izzy Azalea or whatever your name is, you can never have the grace and dance like an Indian woman.

Don't believe me? Watch this. That video is the first one to come up in my search, there are countless videos of Hindi and other Indian regional film heriones that I like but I wanted to be neutral. Here is another video that proves my point.

And if I get another person ask me why I like to dress so hippy I will SLAP them. Its not hippy or folksy, I am Indian and I like to wear clothes and jewellery I buy in my country. It is very annoying that suddenly aspects of my culture have become trendy to white people and every other person is sporting coin necklaces, bindis and Ganesh rings. Please learn to say Yoga right and understand what it means before you start a yoga studio and charge heaps to chant OM wrong.

Sunset shenanigans

Dress: Mink-pink, Suede-boots: Wittner, Back-pack: Rozelle markets, Jewellery: India+Sydney Markets

Spent Sunday afternoon at the Rozelle markets, met a bunch of lovely puppies and then walked to the Balmain cove to watch a lovely sunset while sipping ice-tea. A lazy Sunday afternoon is just what I needed before the hecticness Monday is sure to bring.

This outfit makes little sense but this is what I do all winter, just pile on layer after layer over a print I like in the hopes of staying warm. This little fabric back-pack is straight out of my dreams and I might never take it off, all I need now is a heap of Cowrie shells that I will hang off it. Hope you have had a great week and a rad weekend.

More mountain snap-shots

Dress: Sportsgirl, Flannel: Vintage, Shoes: Converse hi-tops, Beaded necklace: Sydney markets, Sweater: India

As soon as the chill creeps in I start layering wool plus flannel haphazardly till I am warm enough and just grab a beanie and am good to go. I envy people who look put together even when the weather is colder, naaa who am I kidding I love to dress to be me but I do like to look at people unlike myself.

I miss the clean mountain air and the fresh smells of the bush, can't wait to go back. Can you tell I love ferns? I find them beautiful and would like nothing better to be sitting in a forest of ferns but then the thought of creepy crawlies is scary. Shudder! On to better topics, I love this beaded necklace but somehow broke it and now think only my sister (who is bloody amazing at DIYs) can fix this. How amazing is this Ganesh bag I got at the hippie markets in the mountains and am in love with? I mean my obsession for Ganesh and elephants is well-documented here, even if the obsession is ignored the bag is perfect!

There is nothing better than running up and down mountain tracks in dirty canvas hi-tops, by running I mean happily skipping down and panting heavily on the way up. Hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the week.

Mountains days and nights

I was working on Saturday when the boy said he was renting a car and we were going to the mountains, I thought it was just something he said because it was past three pm on a Saturday afternoon and the rental places were shutting soon. But 45 minutes later he let me know he was on his way to pick me up from work and he'd rented this HUGE ass four-wheel drive to go exploring in and I just went SQUEEEEEE!

We drove home, packed in a jiffy and in less than an hour were driving towards the Blue mountains with a bike in our trunk, ah the fresh mountain air does wonders for my soul. We parked by the most breath-taking views of the peaks as well as the bush and settled in for the night in the car. Think loads of block-printed bed-sheets draped all over to make the most magical caravan and sleeping atop a heap of quilts+air mattress. It was the best setting ever to drink ice-tea and watch the Life of Pi before we feel asleep to the quietest quiet I have heard in a long time.

Woke up to the most beautiful morning light streaming through the fabric we'd hung all over and stepped out of the car to the first two photos. Started the day with breakkie at our favourite cafe, shopped around at the various op-shops and hippy markets then proceeded to spend the day walking in bush in a ton of layers to keep warm. I live for days like these. Stayed away from the internet and the phone except for texting our respective Mommies. Here are a few photos of the lovely day. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY world.

Sweater: All-saints, Jacket: Vintage, back-pack: Thrifted, Coin neck-lace: India

I feel like I am back to being seventeen years old here wearing all my favourite things, a coin neck-lace, warm sweater with an oversize camouflage jacket, fabric back-pack, comfy kicks and a beanie. Being sick sucks!

Block print dress: India, Sweater: Thrifted, Boots: Doc Martens, Bag: Hand woven in Papua New Guinea

I've been sick in bed for three days now, had to be convinced that going for a little walk while the sun sets and the neighbourhood dogs come out to play was a good idea. I can report that it indeed was a brilliant idea, I feel much better and doggie cuddles do wonders for me. And sick clothing calls for comfort, comfort and still more comfort! Hope everyone's been having a better weekend than I am. Happy Sunday world!
